Vacation House

 |
The house was designed as a series
of triangular roof volumes arranged in alternating directions.
Its contemporary design borrows elements from regional New England architecture
such as the narrow clapboard wood siding and white trim, steeply-pitched roofs,
stone walls, and rooftop widow's walk. No formal front door exists.
Entry from the street proceeds along a walk, promoting an interaction with the house's
overhead decks and stone terrace, and terminates at the patio entry doors.
Natural woods and local stone
are used for fireplace, floors, ceilings, and outdoor terrace.
The living room with high ceiling, stone hearth, second floor overlook, and
terrace forms the central common gathering place for the family.
Alternately, each bedroom opens to its own outdoor terrace or deck, affording privacy when needed.
The project was a collaberation with Andy Pressman, FAIA.
